Midland Residence

Problem:

Remodel/ update an existing traditional home without losing the basic elements, which provide the intrinsic character of the place.

Solution:

Maintain the simplicity and symmetry of the two gabled “bookends” of the street façade that the client loved. They also requested that the renovation be “filled with light.”

The addition of a tall clerestory, centered on the entry accomplished three goals:

  1. Added natural light to the living areas
  2. Created a strong central entry and anchored the rambling massing.
  3. Reinforced the symmetry of the entry

A window wall opening to a small, rear courtyard adds to the open/airy quality of the living spaces.
